The purpose of art is the freedom it promotes.
The essence of art is the freedom it implies.
Art should explore different realms, seeking new discoveries in unknown lands.
But in today’s world, art suffers. It lacks the myths and legends that
have shaped our ancestral world; that can be found throughout our
ancient histories, interwoven through cultures and societies.
It is therefore, even more refreshing to find an artist that recognizes
and uses visual patterns from different cultures, interweaving them
into something new –a new voice, a new language, a new visual
experience.
Born and raised in Hispanic South America Demamed Mamán hails from a
magnificent tapestry of crisscrossed cultures and traditions. His work
re-lights the fire of originality.
Demamed uses different cultures as a source of inspiration; he
transforms them; interconnecting West with East; North with South;
producing novelty. Sensitive to the world around him, Demamed uses the
constructs and sensuality that he finds in our universe and offers it
back as original works of art.
Using patterns from classical art and intertwining them with
alternative art styles Demamed is able to create art pieces with more
than one cultural identity. Working with multiple mediums, a clash of
modern and traditional are transformed through - steel, glass, wood,
plastic, beads, fabric – to link visual patterns in a manner which
recognizes the common core of humanity.
In the new global dynamic which saw an African-American step-up to
assume the most powerful position in the world, trans-cultural art –
recognizes differences, respects them and merges them into something
more powerful – is the new art pattern within the new paradigm.
Demamed Mamán is at the forefront of this movement. His art work allows
us the liberty to relax and absorb ourselves in this new multi-
cultural dynamic. Long may it last!
